People and cultures possess popular wisdom expressed through their craftsmanship.
Spain has a unique culture, it has been a land of arrival for many civilizations that have influenced it. Hence, in Spain there is an extensive and deeply rooted tradition of varied and intergenerational craftsmanship. Some of these ancestral trades are in danger of extinction, and various materials well-valued in the past are being forgotten and disregarded. Sauras works with these artisans in remote areas of Spain to revive their techniques with a contemporary touch. By supporting this type of production, we are helping to keep legacies alive.
The designer
Lorena is a Spanish Designer currently living in San Francisco. She received her Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship at the prestigious École cantonale d’art in Lausanne, Switzerland (ECAL). She has acquired a level of know-how developing projects for prestigious brands and collaborating with designers on the international scene which has led her to her dream of creating a brand to collaborate with craftsmen and create timeless designs.
How Sauras Was Born
After years living abroad, Lorena went back to Spain to re-connect with her roots. It was during that trip through remote villages when Lorena had the opportunity to meet with some artisans and listen to their stories. She was very touched to learn that some of those craftsmen were the last ones alive maintaining their craft and that if nobody was to continue, the tradition would be lost. At that very moment, she knew she wanted to collaborate with them and bring to life SAURAS, to create timeless pieces carefully designed in San Francisco and handcrafted by master artisans.
